Language Arts
Reading:
Weekly five Language Arts activities: The
activities include read-to-self, read-to-someone, word work, work-on-writing
and listen to reading.
- Read to self: Students work on reading strategies. Currently we are working on identifying main ideas and supporting details, recognizing cause and effect, and comparing and contrasting
- Read to someone: Students are asked to read a current event about Canada or Saskatchewan to a partner and then answer comprehensive questions
- Listen to reading: Students watch a scientific video and respond to a comprehension question on kid’s blog. Each week a student is selected to post a video and question
- Word work: Spelling and grammar
- Work on writing: Students create compositions based upon the writing traits.

Writing:
Writing responses that focuses on responding to
questions through written text
The writing process (pre-writing, drafting,
editing, publishing): Descriptive Writing
Writing Traits: ideas and content, word choice,
fluency, voice, organization and conventions
Writing forms: Daily lessons that focus on a
specific writing forms. We are currently studying how to write a biography.
